Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a form of treatment that involves a trained therapist and a client or patient discussing their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences. The goal of talk therapy is to help the client or patient explore their emotions, identify patterns of behavior and thinking that may be causing problems, and develop coping skills to better manage their emotions and challenges. Talk therapy can be conducted in individual, group, or family sessions, and can be done in person, over the phone, or online. Talk therapy can be effective for a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, and substance abuse.
A psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is a specialized type of nurse practitioner who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions. PMHNPs are advanced practice nurses who are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and addiction. They are licensed to prescribe medication, as well as provide therapy and other forms of treatment for their patients. PMHNPs work with individuals, families, and groups, and may work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, private practices, and community mental health centers. PMHNPs play a critical role in providing mental health care to underserved populations, and are an important part of the mental health care team.
In Michigan, PMHNPs work in collaboration with physicians. At Paradigm, our PMHNPs have a healthy, respectful working relationship with our collaborative physician.
We pride ourselves in matching patients with providers who specialize in what they request care for. If for whatever reason, we are not a good fit, or if we do not specialize in the care needed- there are a few options that can be considered. One option is to try to find a provider to better fit their needs.
Another option is to consider a referral to another provider or practice. A referral can be made to a different therapist or practice that may be a better fit for the patient's needs. The patient can discuss this possibility with our office staff, who can help connect them with appropriate resources.
It is important for the patient to feel comfortable and supported in their care, so we do our best to assist in this process.
Great care requires specialized care. If we are not able to provide that for you, we will happily help you find someone who can.
To ensure each person is able to obtain the best mental health care, each individual is asked a set of questions. These questions are in place to make sure we can provide the care you need. If we do not have providers who specialize in the care you need, we will do our best to provide resources to outside offices that may be able to help.
To request care:
1. Text your full legal name, DOB, email address, phone number, and type of insurance to our office at 989-573-5043. You can also call and leave a voicemail with the same information.
2. A member of our team will reach back out in about 2-3 business days via email with a simple questionnaire.
3. A provider will review the returned questionnaire. If the patient and provider are a good fit, the patient will be sent a link to our patient portal!
